Cholesterol and triglycerides

Natural products containing plant extracts or nutrients useful for maintaining proper levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood (against high cholesterol) and promoting digestion and proper liver function

Both cholesterol and triglycerides are fundamental elements for our body: cholesterol is an essential component of cell membranes and acts as a raw material for the synthesis of some hormones and other essential substances such as vitamin D, while triglycerides represent an energy source very important for the human body.

It is essential, however, to control their levels in the blood, especially after a certain age, because several studies have confirmed a correlation between high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood and the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

If you eat too many carbohydrates and animal fats, these are then "transformed" by the liver into "bad" cholesterol. One must remember that there is "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoproteins, LDLs) and good cholesterol (high-density lipoproteins, HDL).
Simplistically, lipoproteins are the "vehicle" that carries fat into the bloodstream in order to reach the various body tissues. LDLs distribute cholesterol to various organs, but if their blood levels are too high, they can start to gradually settle on the arterial wall, forming the so-called atherosclerotic plaques.
HDLs, on the other hand, represent "good cholesterol" as they absorb excess cholesterol and bring it back to the liver where it is incorporated into bile salts, which are sent to the intestine and finally partially expelled with faecal material.
The formation of plaques in the arteries caused by "bad" cholesterol impairs their elasticity over time and results in an obstacle to circulation, which can develop into very serious problems such as thrombosis, or even a heart attack.

To prevent this accumulation, proper nutrition combined with regular physical activity becomes essential. It can also be helpful to take supplements that synergistically exploit substances that can promote the metabolism of cholesterol and triglycerides (such as soy lecithin, monacolin K, flaxseed oil or mistletoe) and keep the cardiovascular system healthy.
Supplementation of plant sterols can, for example, be useful for maintaining normal levels of cholesterol in the blood. Other substances such as boldus, artichoke or milk thistle, may, however, support liver function and therefore help the liver in its fundamental "cleansing" function.

Finally, remember that it is always good to look ahead, through prevention, to a healthy lifestyle and regular checkups, to keep "bad fats" under control and ensure a healthy future to your body.
